History of Caro Area District Library

Caro Area District Library (formerly Indianfields Public Library) had its predecessor in a 'ladies' library society, in the 1880s in Caro. The present library had its beginning in 1914.

For much of its history, the library was housed in the Schall Elementary School. In the mid-1970s the Indianfields Library Board determined to build a separate building, which was finished in 1978.

Today, the Caro Area District Library has a variety of items for public use, estimated at over 50,000 items! Besides books and magazines, it has computers, books on tape, audio tapes, a connection with the Internet, a computer connection with all the libraries in the local library cooperative allowing access to a variety of materials held by the White Pine Cooperative Libraries, and much more. Both the card catalog and material checkout are now done by computer.

The present library staff consists of six full-time Library Assistants, a full time Assistant Library Director, a full time Director and several part time staff.
